Linktree's 2024 Creator Commerce report is out.
While it's mostly about brands using Content Creators to try and sell more stuff, there was one chart that really stuck out.
It looks stressful.
It looks uncertain.
It's precarious to be solely reliant on platforms/algorithms and advertisers that run their own race.
It doesn't have to be this way.
We believe a direct financial relationship between creator and audience is the best model for a healthier creator economy and ecosystem.
For podcasts, that means getting Listener Support using a tool like Lenny.fm. What a coincidence!
I am a podcast creator and started Lenny.fm with myself and other podcast creators front of mind.
No algorithms to feed, no brands to shift units for.
Great ways to monetize your podcast that don't rely on algorithms or advertisers
In no particular order.
- Donations/exchange of value - this becoming increasingly popular for Creators. PayPal, Buymeacoffee and other services are ready to go.
- Merchandise - Redbubble or Gelato will handle pretty much everything but the graphics.
- Lenny.fm - Listener Support for podcast creators.
- Back catalogue/early access - Supercast, SupportingCast or Apple Podcasts Subscription (
- Events - Luma
- Bonus content - Supercast, SuppportingCast or Apple Podcasts Subscription
- Be the advertiser - Make or retail products that your audience are interested in. Shopify is the big name but something like FormPay would work.
