The A-Corp. A new artist-corporate concept from the co-founder of Kickstarter

Yancey Strickler gave a TED Talk the other day proposing a new economic model for financially sustainable creative work.
Something that could "open up a new path to properity for creative people" (in the USA).
Artists would collectively own an organisation, which holds onto the brand, IP, money, pays salary, licenses work or even issues shares.
This allows the Artist Corp to be valued more highly and ensure everyone benefits if things go well.
"Artist Corporations would treat them (creative people) as real economic actors for the first time," Yancey said.
"I fully expect venture capital for artists and creators to become a real thing."
One line, early on in Yancey's presentation, really landed for me and what we're trying to do with Lenny.fm.
"The people most like me, were my biggest competition"
For Podcast Creators that could be competition for attention and money.
You can't divide someone's attention, but you can split the amount of money they have to support Creators.
Lenny.fm's concept of supporting a unique Creator bundle, ensures that funds are spread across a Listener's podcast habits.

Competition between podcasts for Listener money evaporates because everyone wins with Lenny.fm's model.
Another podcast might encourage a Listener to use Lenny and that Listener includes your podcast in their bundle.
Rather than competing, we're all benefiting in a way that's meaningful and helping us do more of what we want to do - make the show!
I'm also a fan of MetaLabel, Yancey's new project to help artists release work together and get paid.
Check it out if you're collaborating with other creators or, like me, love looking into different ways creators can make a living from their work!
